Lanao del Norte is located in the Northern Mindanao area along the Northwestern Coast. Three known fishing grounds bound 10 of its 22 municipalities, namely: Iligan Bay, Panguil Bay, and Illana Bay. The province is bounded on the North by Iligan Bay and the province of Misamis Occidental on the East; on the South is the province of Lanao del Sur. Panguil Bay borders at the West and the boundary of Zamboanga del Sur. The province is administratively under Region X11. It has a total land area of 355,636 hectares.

Lanao del Norte is located in the Northern Mindanao area along the Northwestern Coast. Three known fishing grounds bound 10 of its 22 municipalities, namely: Iligan Bay, Panguil Bay, and Illana Bay. The province is bounded on the North by Iligan Bay and the province of Misamis Occidental on the East; on the South is the province of Lanao del Sur. Panguil Bay borders at the West and the boundary of Zamboanga del Sur. The province is administratively under Region X11. It has a total land area of 355,636 hectares. The term Lanao is derived from the Maranao word “ranao’ meaning body of water. “Maranao” means “lake dweller”. They are the natives of the place occupying the land around the lake “Lanao” which is situated at the central part of Lanao del Sur. Lanao is applied to the entire area before its division. The Maranaos that populated the province are a tribe of Malay – Arabic descent. They settled in the area long before the advent of the Spaniards in the Philippines. They possess a culture, and civilization distinctly unique from any other ethnic group in the country. The local government of Lanao del Norte has been exerting its best effort to uplift the quality of life of the people by promoting the Integrated Agriculture and Economic Tourism Development Programs. The goal of the development plan is to facilitate and accelerate the economic condition of the province. One of the conditions identified is to promote the tourism industry that would act as a catalyst for the development of trade and other economic interactions between outlying municipalities in the province. Some places of interest in Lanao del Norte are the following: The Tinago Falls, as literally implied, is hidden in deep ravine. The falls cascades beautifully into a basin. It has an elevation of approximately 420 feet. It is located at Linamon, Lanao del Norte, 52 kilometers away from Tubad, the capital town of Lanao del Norte. Lake Balo-i which is ideal place for water sports and fishing activities. Located at Liangan, east of the municipality of Bacolod, is the only historical tourist attraction of the province - the Fort Almonte, a repertoire of the Spaniards during WW11. The Mindanao – Civic Center, located within the province is perfect place for events, conventions and seminars, as well as other social gatherings.
