In 1970, the late Dr. Rufino N. Macagba Sr. and his wife Dr. Crispina Lorenzana-Macagba, both doctors-educators, established Lorma College to fill the need for a nursing school in support of the fast expanding Lorma Hospital, founded 36 years earlier. From its humble start as a single college, Lorma has expanded into 8 degree-granting units plus a Special Science High School, an elementary school and a pre-elementary school which have all established themselves to be among the best in the region. Through a recent-tie up with the Philippine Women's University (PWU) College of Distance Education in Manila, Lorma has further widened its range of programs and its reach, thus serving more students and teachers via the distance education mode.
Lorma Colleges continues to be the Ilocos Region's center of excellence in paramedical and computer training and education and envisions itself to be a vital institution in building competency, leadership and Christian social concern among the region's youth.
